Biden, 78, Says the ‘Light at the End of the Tunnel’ Is ‘Growing Brighter and Brighter’

President Joe Biden declared “the light at the end of the tunnel is actually growing brighter and brighter” during a speech at the White House on Tuesday.

The moment: The president was citing the impending end of pandemic emergency measures, pointing to the success of the coronavirus vaccine program.

  • “The light at the end of the tunnel is actually growing brighter and brighter.  So Americans have sacrificed and served to make this progress possible, showing the best of who we are as a people,” he said.

The reaction: But some commenters on Twitter suggested he was referring to a different kind of bright light and made jokes about the president’s septuagenarian status.

  • “He has all the energy of someone approaching the light at the end of the tunnel….” quipped Townhall columnist Derek Hunter.

Context: At 78 years old, Biden is the oldest person to assume the presidency and has already outlived the average American.
