Joe Biden Refers to Kamala Harris as ‘President-Elect’

Joe Biden referred to Kamala Harris as “president-elect” during a speech on Tuesday, playing into speculation that she will be the real power in the White House.

The moment: Biden, the actual president-elect, made the slip while criticizing the Trump administration’s efforts to distribute a coronavirus vaccine and laying out his own plans to curb the pandemic.

“I hope the president will clearly and unambiguously urge all Americans to take the vaccine once it’s available,” Biden said from his headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware.

  • “I took it to instill public confidence in the vaccine. President-elect Harris took hers today for the same reason,” he continued, referring to the vice-president elect.
  • “And when the president’s doctors recommend it, President Trump should take it and it’s still the same degree of confidence.”

Heir-apparent: On the campaign trail in September, Harris looked forward to a “Harris administration, before catching herself, and adding, “together with Joe Biden as the president of the United States.”

President Donald Trump and others on the right have often questioned the mental fitness of Biden, 78, and accused Harris of plotting to replace him asap.

  • “Joe’s not lasting two months as president, OK, that’s my opinion,” Trump said of Biden in an October interview.
