A CNN reporter called Joe Biden “vice-president elect” in a New Year’s Day slip-up that played into speculation about who will be the real power in the White House.

The moment: CNN Business’ Alison Klosik was speaking to Axios politics editor Margaret Talev on Friday about the continued fight over the 2020 election and the upcoming Senate runoffs in Georgia, which will determine whether Republicans keep control of the chamber.

“Even Monday, we’re going to be seeing the vice president, the vice president-elect, Joe Biden, visiting there,” Kosik said of Georgia, where the runoffs will determine which party controls the Senate.

  • “[President Donald] Trump will be visiting there on Monday. Talk to me about how high the stakes are here.”

Heir-apparent: Biden, the president-elect, and Harris, the vice president-elect, have previously misspoken in similar ways.

  • On the campaign trail in September, Harris, looked forward to a “Harris administration, before catching herself, and adding, “together with Joe Biden as the president of the United States.”

President Donald Trump and others on the right have often questioned the mental fitness of Biden, 78, and accused Harris of plotting to replace him asap.

  • “Joe’s not lasting two months as president, OK, that’s my opinion,” Trump said of Biden in an October interview.
