Attendees at a campaign event for Arkansas gubernatorial candidate Sarah Huckabee Sanders were treated to the unexpected appearance of former President Donald Trump.
The image: Sanders posted a photo of Trump showing up to the event.
- “Great weekend on the campaign trail featuring a surprise appearance at one of my events by President Trump!” she wrote in the caption.
- According to the New York Post, the location of the event is not known.
Context: Trump endorsed Sanders after she announced she was running for office in January.
- “Sarah is strong on Borders, tough on Crime, and fully supports the Second Amendment and our great law enforcement officers,” Trump told Fox News in a statement.
- Trump has been pushing to remake the GOP in his own image, taking on Republicans who opposed him or his policies and rewarding loyalists.
- But some former aides have suggested Trump is undecided on how active a role he wants to take in the party, vacillating between endorsing establishment candidates and lambasting figures like Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
