Trump Says He’ll Be ‘Reinstated’ as President by August: Report

T

Donald Trump is reportedly telling people he expects to be “reinstated” as president by August.

The report: “Trump has been telling a number of people he’s in contact with that he expects he will get reinstated by August,” The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman said Tuesday on Twitter.

Haberman suggested in a follow-up tweet that the former president’s purported comments are related to a possible indictment against him in New York.

The context: At the Patriot Roundup for God and Country conference in Dallas over the weekend, Trump allies backed his unproven claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him.

  • Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn appeared to say that a Myanmar-style military coup “should happen” in the United States, though he said Monday his videotaped comments had been misrepresented.
  • During the same event on Sunday, lawyer Sidney Powell, who has represented Flynn, dismissed as “fake news” the notion that he had “urged the military to take any action to unseat the president.”
  • But she added that Trump “can simply be reinstated” and “get the remainder of his term.”

Jenna Ellis, a lawyer who worked on the Trump campaign’s efforts to challenge the results of the 2020 election, agreed with experts who say Trump cannot constitutionally be reinstated as president.

Trump has repeatedly teased running for reelection in 2024 but has not committed to doing so.
