‘There is a Pro-Arby’s Uprising on the Right’

At a moment of heightened class conflict in America, Arby’s has seemingly spontaneously emerged across Twitter as an icon in the culture wars.

The uprising: It started, if such things can be said to really start at all, last Tuesday when the Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh renewed his longtime advocacy on behalf of the restaurant chain, saying, “Arby’s > Chick Fil A (and it’s not even close).”

When, a week later, radio host Jesse Kelly, a fellow conservative, separately lamented that Arby’s has for too long been disrespected, Walsh was ready to declare a revolution.

  • “There is a pro-Arby’s uprising on the right …” he declared.

The insurrection was not without precedent.

In October, Tim Alberta, Politico’s right-leaning chief political correspondent, told Jonah Goldberg that Arby’s was his favorite “on-the-road fast-food place,” edging out conservative favorite Chik Fil A.

  • “I’m gonna get killed for this, Jonah, but I gotta tell you, man, the way that Arby’s has diversified their menu in the last couple of years.” Alberta said. “I’ve gotta say that if I look back on my expense reports, I’ve probably spent the most money at Arby’s.”

Meanwhile, on Friday, liberal comedian Jon Stewart opened a Twitter account ahead of the launch of his new HBO show, and immediately resumed his unprovoked rhetorical assault on Arby’s.

  • “Yes…I’ve come back up on you…much like one of your nasty nasty sandwiches….” Stewart told the company.
  • Arby’s, as usual, responded with grace.

Despite the partisan polarization of the issue, a Daily Wire Twitter poll on Tuesday found that the people overwhelmingly prefer Chik Fil a to Arby’s.

  • At least one user, though, suspected the vote had been rigged.
