President Biden claimed yesterday to have been “raised in the Puerto Rican community, politically” during a visit to the island territory to survey damage from Hurricane Fiona.
In his remarks at Ponce, Biden remarked: “We have a very, in relative terms, large Puerto Rican population, in Delaware. We have the eighth largest black population in the country.”
“And between all minorities, we have 20 percent of our state is minority,” he continued. “So I was sort of raised in the Puerto Rican community, politically.”
In July, the president’s wife, first lady Jill Biden, expressed her love for the Latino community by comparing it to the “breakfast tacos” in San Antonio, Texas.
- Days after, she apologized for her remarks.
