QUOTE OF THE DAY: It Must Be the Voters Who Are Out of Touch

Q

In her column Tuesday, the Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin argued that Trump voters may no longer be capable of participating in democracy — or reality.

WHAT SHE SAID

Under the headline, “The problem with the GOP isn’t just the demagogues. It’s the voters,” Rubin wrote that she suspects “the rise of the anti-truth, anti-democracy MAGA movement” isn’t just about “demagogic leaders” and “opportunistic enablers.”

  • “After years of marinating in right-wing media sewage — everything from birtherism to immigrant scaremongering to the ‘big lie’ — Republican voters unsurprisingly show no sign of discomfort with the MAGA mentality,” Rubin opined.
  • “For one thing, the MAGA mentality has been reinforced throughout White evangelical Christian communities, as pollsters have documented Christian nationalism, white grievance, anti-science conspiracies and messiah-like worship of [former President] Trump have become part and parcel of millions of Americans’ faith.”
  • Rubin hoped GOP voters will vote for anti-Trump candidates in 2022 and 2024, but concluded: “There’s good reason to fear that the panderers have ‘succeeded’ beyond their wildest expectations, leaving us with tens of millions of voters who are hostile to facts and the fundamental principles embodied in the Constitution, and who will turn their backs on any office seeker offering something ‘better.'”

Liberal elites have made increasingly clear that they view much of the American public as dangerously radical and stupid.

  • NBC host Mehdi Hasan warned on air Monday that “the pro-QAnon, pro-neo Nazi faction of the Republican Party is poised to expand dramatically come the midterms. We’re just two years away from Donald Trump very possibly re-seizing executive power.”
