While speaking at a House Judiciary Committee hearing yesterday, Rep. Hank Johnson, D-Ga., compared parents protesting school board meetings to Jan. 6 rioters.
Johnson, whose remarks came during a hearing to discuss a House resolution related to the Justice Department’s plan to address threats made against school officials and teachers, condemned protests at school board meetings last year over politically charged issues, such as critical race theory.
“People at school board meetings will never forget MAGA Republicans descending on their school board meetings just like they did on Jan. 6,” he said. “It was a coordinated attack happening across the country.”
- Johnson echoed recent rhetoric from President Biden and other Democrats claiming “MAGA Republicans” pose an “extremist” threat to democracy.
- “Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic,” Biden said during a widely criticized speech at the beginning of the month.
