President Biden said Wednesday that MAGA Republicans are dangerous extremists who might segregate LGBT kids after they overturn federal abortion protections.
WHAT HE SAID
At a White House press conference, Biden said this week’s leak of a draft Supreme Court majority opinion reversing Roe v. Wade, the landmark abortion rights ruling, is “about a lot more than abortion.”
“What happens if you have states change the law saying that children who are LGBTQ can’t be in classrooms with other children. Is that legit under the way the decision is written? What are the next things that are going to be attacked?” Biden said.
- “Because this MAGA crowd is really the most extreme political organization that’s existed in American history — in recent American history.”
- During his remarks, Biden also criticized an economic policy plan proposed by Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fl., as “this ultra-MAGA agenda,” adding, “”It’s extreme, as most MAGA things are.”
Biden’s comments came after he told reporters Tuesday the end of Roe could threaten “a whole range of rights” beyond abortion, including to contraception and marriage.
- “There are so many fundamental rights that are affected by that, and I’m not prepared to leave that to the whims of the public at the moment,” he said.
- Biden also called the Supreme Court’s draft opinion “radical.”
Scott responded to Biden Wednesday: “Almost every sentence was a complete lie,” he said to Fox News’ Martha MacCallum.
- “Democrats’ radical agenda … continues to hurt families and destroy the country,” Scott’s office added in a statement.
