Pro-Defund the Police AOC Said She Was Traumatized Not Knowing If Cops Were Around at Capitol Riot

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said she was “traumatized” during the January 6 riot at the Capitol in Washington, D.C.

The footage: The New York Democrat made the comments Tuesday night in an Instagram livestream to her followers.

Ocasio-Cortez has been a vocal defender of the “defund the police” movement, despite political observers speculating that such a stance contributed to Democratic losses in Congress.

  • “I thought I was going to die,” said the self-described democratic socialist on Tuesday night, before going on to discuss the “trauma” of not knowing whether the police would come to her aid.
  • “You know, we have many officers and, you know, there were also black and brown officers that were confronting white supremacists and putting themselves not just to protect members, but they put themselves in harm’s way, on the front line, facing the racist violence of white supremacists ordered by Donald Trump to attack the Capitol,” the freshman congresswoman added.
  • Ocasio-Cortez highlighted the “acts of heroism” by police that took place last week but also said there were “acts of betrayal.”

“And to run in the Capitol, in our nation’s capital, and not know if an officer is there to help you or to harm you is also quite traumatizing,” she added, before calling on Republican Sens. Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz to resign.

Back the blue? Many on the right have accused Democrat anti-police advocates who call on law enforcement during emergencies of exhibiting hypocrisy.

  • In a high-profile November incident, a Portland city commissioner who had criticized police for responding to non-emergency situations called the cops after an argument with her Lyft driver.
