Photos Show Migrants Arriving at US-Mexico Border Wearing ‘Biden’ T-Shirts

Dozens of migrants were photographed at a U.S.-Mexico border crossing on Tuesday wearing T-shirts and carrying signs that said, “Biden please let us in!”

The moment: The group joined other migrants at the San Ysidro crossing between Tijuana and Baja California in a demonstration demanding clearer U.S. immigration policies, according to Reuters.

  • An LGBT migrant group’s website was featured on the back of the Biden campaign-style T-shirts, which were recently seen at a protest at a nearby migrant camp.

The crisis: President Joe Biden’s early moves to undo Trump-era immigration restrictions have satisfied no one and created a crisis on the southern border.

  • The Biden administration has had to reopen detention facilities that outraged Democrats during Donald Trump’s presidency in a scramble to accommodate a record surge of migrants, mainly unaccompanied minors.
  • “We need to prepare for border surges now,” Timothy Perry, ICE’s chief of staff, wrote in a leaked Feb. 12 email. “We need to begin making changes immediately.”

But Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Monday denied the situation was a “crisis.”

  • “I think there is a challenge at the border that we are managing, and we have our resources dedicated to managing it,” he said.
