Social media commenters last week expressed disgust at the less-than-pristine condition of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s face mask.
Not a pretty picture: Critics of the New York Democrat surfaced an image taken from a video she posted to Instagram on Wednesday.
- During the opening seconds of the footage Ocasio-Cortez is seen pulling off a white mask, the inside of which is covered in smears of unknown origin.
- “My mask is gross, don’t pay attention to that,” she says in the video, which features her reaction to the jury verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial.
The reaction: Various commenters on Twitter shared their blunt thoughts on the soiled garment.
- “Omg! GROSS,” tweeted one Twitter user.
- “So much crap comes out her mouth, some of it was bound to end up on the mask,” said another.
- Meanwhile, commenters arrived at a consensus as to the identity of the mystery substance staining the mask: makeup and mascara.
AOC: Ocasio-Cortez’s status as a media darling, as well as her willingness to engage in high-profile spats with her political opponents, has earned her the ire of many on the right.
- In fact, Ocasio-Cortez’s social media savvy and pugilistic instincts have led some to characterize her as the left’s answer to former President Donald Trump.
