The host of a popular web-based news show floated the theory that, contrary to public perception, President Joe Biden’s policies might be appealing to those in the “Make America Great Again” movement.
The video: Krystal Ball, a former MSNBC contributor who now co-hosts The Hill’s “Rising,” argued on Wednesday that while Biden may talk like a Democrat, his actions reveal populist sympathies.
- Ball catalogued a host of Biden’s positions on issues such as immigration, criminal justice and economic policy, which supposedly contradict conventional thinking on the president as a complete foil to his predecessor, Donald Trump.
- “If you look just at the Biden policies, what you come to see is a law and order stalwart with a left-of-center, but still market-centric, populist pro-family economic policy,” she said.
- “Serious question here: Is Biden the mythical populist-right leader that we’ve heard so much about?” Ball added. “I’m kind of kidding. But I’m also kind of not.”
Counterpoint: On the other hand, blue-collar workers affected by Biden’s January executive order revoking the permit needed to finish the Keystone XL pipeline might differ with Ball’s assessment.
