House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reportedly belittles Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in a forthcoming biography.
The moment: Pelosi’s biographer, USA Today’s Washington bureau chief Susan Page, records Pelosi speaking in a “child-like voice” about Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democrat, according to Axios.
- Pelosi advised Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of the “Squad” of progressive congresswomen, then in their first term: “You’re not a one-person show. This is the Congress of the United States.”
More: In another preview of the biography published by USA Today on Friday, Page recalls interviewing Pelosi in July 2019 “when her dispute with the Squad had exploded.”
- “[H]er anger at the four new progressive congresswomen was palpable,” Page wrote.
- That month, Pelosi’s back-and-forth with the Squad led Ocasio-Cortez to complain that she was disrespectfully “singling out of newly elected women of color.”
Pelosi spoke with Page 10 times and encouraged her friends and family members to cooperate with the biography, which is due out on April 20, Axios reported on Monday.
- Page also quotes Pelosi criticizing former President Barack Obama’s political skills and complaining that he got all the credit for the deals she pushed through Congress.
