Liberals Mock Vaccine-Skeptical Trump Supporter Who Died of Covid

L

Some liberal commenters on social media reacted gleefully to news that a 70-year-old Donald Trump-supporting vaccine skeptic died after contracting coronavirus.

So what

While liberals have claimed the moral high ground in denouncing Trump’s “dangerous” and “divisive” rhetoric, they’ve repeatedly shown they can be just as nasty.

What happened

Linda Zuern, a politically active Trump supporter in Bourne, Massachusetts, died Friday due to complications from COVID-19, the Cape Cod Times reported.

  • According to neighbors and friends, Zuern was unvaccinated.
  • The liberal blog Raw Story surfaced old Facebook posts from Zuern, in which she reportedly “promoted conspiracy theories” about the pandemic and expressed support for the QAnon movement.
The reaction

Zuern’s story sparked a flood of smug and tasteless responses from liberal Twitter, including from accounts with hundreds of thousands of followers.

John Pavlovitz, a progressive pastor whose Twitter bio describes him as “Unapologetically committed to equality, diversity, compassion, love, and justice”:

Quote

“She was a strong woman who believed in speaking the truth and defending our freedoms in America,” Deborah Dugan, a Republican State Committeewoman who was at Zuern’s bedside when she died, told the Cape Cod Times. “I would describe her to people as a little woman but a mighty warrior.”
