WATCH: New Yorkers Use Bolt Cutters to Show Dem Mayor What They Think of His Coronavirus Lockdown

Fed-up Jewish residents of Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood on Monday showed New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio what they think of his coronavirus lockdown measures.

De Blasio has been accused of singling out Jewish New Yorkers when it comes to enforcement of quarantine directives by shuttering synagogues and issuing warnings to the “Jewish community.”

  • “My message to the Jewish community, and all communities, is this simple: the time for warnings has passed. I have instructed the NYPD to proceed immediately to summons or even arrest those who gather in large groups. This is about stopping this disease and saving lives. Period,” he tweeted in April after overseeing the breakup of an ultra-Orthodox Jewish funeral in Williamsburg.

Community leaders shrugged off De Blasio’s response and apologized for violating “social distancing” restrictions, even as Democrats and Republicans alike condemned his comments as overly broad or even anti-Semitic.

But the city may have gone too far this week by chaining shut the gates of Middleton Playground, which is used by local ultra-Orthodox Jews, just one day after a massive Black Trans Lives Matter march was allowed to traverse Brooklyn.

A video that has circulated widely online shows ultra-Orthodox Jews forcing their way into the playground and ushering in a crowd of children.

“Total double standard → New York’s mayor appears to be discriminating against Jewish funerals, schools, and playgrounds in enforcing his coronavirus shutdown. If Americans can protest, families should have access to their neighborhood parks,” commented House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.
