Children auditioned to play enthused guests of Vice President Kamala Harris in a Space Week video that has been widely mocked online, it was revealed Monday.
WHAT HAPPENED
“All five of them are actors,” Carlo Bernardino, the father of one of the children who appeared in the YouTube special last week, told the Washington Examiner. “He’s a child actor — he’s been trying to do this type of thing for a while. And so he has a manager and an agent in LA and they send him castings.”
Bernardino’s 13-year-old son, Trevor, said to KSBW Monday that he auditioned for the role from his home in Monterey, California, without knowing he was going to meet Harris, the head of the National Space Council, at the Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C.
- He said he was asked to submit a monologue about a topic he is passionate about and three questions he wanted to ask a world leader.
- Next, Trevor was interviewed by the producer of the video.
- “Then after that, like a week later my agent called me and was like, ‘Hey Trevor, you booked it,’” he recalled.
In the YouTube video — the first in a YouTube children’s series called “Get Curious with Vice President Harris” — the quintet of kids goes on a scavenger hunt to build a telescope, led virtually by NASA astronaut Shane Kimbrough from the International Space Station.
- “Are you kidding me … the head of the space council is the vice president!” the children exclaim on learning who their host will be.
Harris’s performance in the video, meant to get kids excited about the wonders of space exploration, has been ridiculed online as typically inauthentic.

Critics have often accused the Biden White House of stage-managing the president and the vice president — though the pair have managed plenty of gaffes and public relations blunders regardless.
