DOING IT LIVE: Trump’s Dance Moves Set the Internet on Fire

Footage of President Donald Trump dancing at a rally on Friday in Ocala, Florida, has become an internet sensation.

The video: The president’s stylings to the Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.” provoked commentary and imitation from supporters and critics alike.

The sensation: On TikTok, youthful users embraced footage of the moment as part of a “Viva La Swing” trend, which involves dancing to a musical mashup of “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay and “Swing” by the rapper Savage.

At first, the TikTok emulators appeared dedicated to mocking the president.

But Trump supporters quickly got in on the act.

On Twitter, there was a similarly partisan response to Trump’s dance moves, which have been attracting attention for weeks.

Former Obama administration Secretary of State John Kerry suggested Trump is an even worse dancer than he is.

Former “Seinfeld” stars derisively compared Trump’s gyrations to the cluelessly bad dancing of Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s character in an episode of the ’90s sitcom.

However, first daughter and White House adviser Ivanka Trump retweeted the president “doing the Trump,” commenting, “Love it!”

Conservative commentator J. Bradford Williams hailed Trump as a marketing “genius” for getting a dance named after him.

Blaze TV host Chad Prather joked he’s “voting for Donald Trump because of his sick ass dance moves.”

Victory dance?: Trailing in the polls, Trump has touted his “tremendous” rallies as evidence he’s beating his Democratic opponent, Joe Biden.

  • According to an Oct. 9 Pew Research Center report, about two-thirds of Trump supporters are voting for their candidate as opposed to against his opponent; the same is true of about one-third of Biden supporters.
