Surveillance camera footage shows a man being shot after reportedly trying to steal a gun at a gun range.

The video: The incident, which resurfaced on social media this week, took place on Feb. 3 at The Range 702, an indoor shooting facility in Las Vegas.

  • According to police, the suspect, 27-year-old Marvon Payton Jr., attacked an officer with a screw driver after being accused of trying to steal a gun from a patron of The Range, the Las Vegas Sun reported in February.
  • A Las Vegas police officer and two employees of the gun range responded by opening fire and fatally wounding Payton.
  • Police said Payton had a lengthy rap sheet, which included incidents of violence against law enforcement and the attempted murder of a North Las Vegas Police officer.

The aftermath: Authorities did not charge the employees involved in a shooting with a crime.

  • “Their involvement actually helped our officer and could have saved our officer’s life,” Assistant Clark County Sheriff Brett Zimmerman told the Associated Press in February.
  • The officer assaulted by Payton was treated at a hospital for stab wounds and a broken facial bone.
