Conservative Women Are the Happiest Women. Here’s Why.

Conservative women report being happier at higher rates than any other group of American women ages 18-55, according to a new survey by the Deseret News and the Center for the Study of Elections and Democracy at Brigham Young University.

Modern women are bombarded with advice about how to be happy – but what do women themselves say?

The 2022 American Family Survey found conservative women in the age group are 15% more likely than liberal women to say they’re “completely satisfied” with their lives.

Childless women: 15%
Liberal women: 16%
Conservative women: 31%
Married moms: 33%

Conservative women and married women report similar rates of happiness: 31% and 33%, respectively.

  • Meanwhile childless, 15% and liberal women, 16%, enjoy comparable life satisfaction rates.
  • Single, childless women are roughly 60% more likely to say they feel lonely compared to married moms.

The likely explanation for the gap between liberal and conservative women’s happiness rates? Conservative women are more likely to be married moms.

  • Married mothers have significantly higher household incomes than childless, single women, according to the U.S. Census’ American Community Survey.
  • Also, married women report much lower rates of loneliness, per the American Family Survey.
