A video posted to social media appears to show a black gas station owner screaming at her fellow racial justice protesters for looting her business.
The video: The 22-second TikTok video was shared on the /r/PublicFreakout subreddit on Thursday with the title “BLM Protester Gets Her Business Destroyed By BLM Protesters.”
- “this is what the media doesnt show.. this was her store, this is so sad,” the caption says.
- The post has been upvoted more than 43,000 times.
The woman who apparently owns the gas station is seen standing outside the shattered front door; broken glass and garbage are strewn on the pavement.
- “So y’all didn’t care if this was a black-owned gas station or not? This is my sh*t, yo,” she says as people walk by in face masks. “I was was protesting with y’all, and you all just broke in my sh*t!”
- “F*ck y’all!” she adds.
- “She ain’t lying, though. They breaking the wrong sh*t,” the cameraman observes.
The source and context of the footage was unclear, and the Reddit user who posted it did not response to an inquiry.
In defense of looting: Liberals sympathetic to months of nationwide racial justice protests have in some cases proved hesitant to condemn associated rioting and looting.
- NPR last month published an interview with writer and activist Vicky Osterweil about her new book, “In Defense of Looting”; editors on Thursday acknowledged the interview had been too uncritical.
- A report released on Thursday by Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project found that about 7% of the 7,750 protests associated with the Black Lives Matter movement in recent months have involved violence.
- According to the nonprofit, which monitors war zones and political upheaval around the world, “These data reveal that the United States is in crisis.”
