After Trump Gets Impeached, GOP Rep Announces Plans to Impeach Biden on His First Day in Office

A

Hours after President Donald Trump’s impeachment on Wednesday, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene announced she will return the favor as soon as Joe Biden takes office.

The announcement: Greene, a first-term Georgia Republican, told Newsmax host Greg Kelly she plans to file articles of impeachment on Jan. 21, Biden’s first full day as president.

“I would like to announce on behalf of the American people, we have to make sure that our leaders are held accountable,” she said on “Greg Kelly Reports.”

  • “We cannot have a president of the United States that is willing to abuse the power of the office of the presidency and be easily bought off by foreign governments, Chinese energy companies, Ukrainian energy companies.”
  • Foreign business dealings by Biden’s son Hunter Biden are under federal criminal investigation, but wrongdoing by the president-elect has not been established.

While any House member can introduce a resolution for impeachment, it must win support from a majority of the chamber to move forward.

Kelly, who like Greene has vocally opposed Biden’s election and Trump’s second impeachment, pressed her on whether she, as a junior member of the minority party, could “really do something about this.”

  • Greene responded that she wanted to give hope to Americans who are “so fearful of a future of a Biden presidency that they may be willing to commit violence like they did in the Capitol here in Washington, D.C.”
  • “We cannot have that,” she added. “I do not condone that violence.”

On Wednesday afternoon, all House Democrats, along with 10 Republicans, charged Trump with inciting an insurrection by riling up his supporters before they stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

The people’s partisan: Greene, an unabashed supporter of the pro-Trump QAnon conspiracy theory, has joined other freshmen Republicans in challenging the norms and rules of Congress.

  • After initially refusing to wear an “oppressive” face in the Capitol, she donned one emblazoned with the word “CENSORED” to give a fiery floor speech against Trump’s impeachment.
  • “Look, the Republican Party needs to change things up,” she said during a second appearance on Newsmax later on Wednesday.
