The public’s disillusionment with how Biden is handling a host of crises – rising crime, inflation, immigration – helps explain why the president’s overall job approval ratings are seriously underwater.
- 53% of respondents approved of the president’s response to the pandemic.
- Biden’s approval numbers slipped in a number of areas since Ipsos last polled the public on the issues.
- The president’s approval rating on economic recovery was 13 points higher in July.
His approval rating on crime and gun violence also dipped.

- “A national Democratic Party that talks up progressive policies at the expense of bipartisan ideas, and that dwells on Donald Trump at the expense of forward-looking ideas, is at risk of becoming a marginal Democratic Party appealing only to the left,” The New York Times editorial board wrote last month.
